The Creatrix of Sacred Smoke and Rituals, Jennifer Jarvis​
Jennifer Jarvis is a soothsayer, huntress, forager, and gardener. She is devoted to bridging the gap between the wilderness and wild healing. She founded Sacred Smoke & Rituals in 2017 after emerging from her healing journey from cancer. Jennifer turned to her garden and to nature to find support, and found strength in embracing the ancient botanical practices of her European ancestors. She harvested flowers, herbs, berries, roots, and leaves from her garden and the forests of eastern Missouri, and with them created rituals that would help reconnect her to her life force. Today, she shares those recipes and her love for ritual with you.

How We Work
Crafted with intuition and science, our offerings are made from sustainably foraged and organically grown botanicals cultivated by women herbal farmers who are connected to the land, the stars, and the soil. Each batch is created in rhythm with nature’s cycles, a living expression of the season it was born. Made slowly and in small quantities, our work honors the integrity and spirit of each plant, blending science, spirituality, and ritual to harmonize body, mind, and soul.

How We Extract Our Tinctures
We craft our tinctures with deep reverence for the Earth’s botanical bounty, guided by celestial rhythms and seasonal tides. Our tinctures are created through the sacred art of maceration, where we carefully chop or grind vibrant botanicals that are immersed in a solvent of various proof alcohols. These potent plants, cultivated in rich soils under the guidance of the cosmos, steep for a full lunar cycle, allowing the solvent to extract their active constituents and yield a luminous tincture brimming with vitality. We honor both the folk method, which involves intuitively placing herbs in a jar and covering them with solvent, and our preferred scientific method, which consists of measuring precise weights of herbs to specific volumes of solvent for unmatched potency and accuracy. Currently, all our fresh herb tinctures and most of our offerings are crafted through this meticulous maceration process, infusing each drop with the wisdom of the Earth to elevate your sacred rituals. With excitement, we announce that next year, we will transition to the percolation process for select tinctures. This dynamic method allows faster extraction while preserving the plants’ vibrant essence, deepening our commitment to sustainability and potency.

Tinctures are less familiar than tisanes (caffeine-free herbal tea). A tincture is made up of potent, super-concentrated plant extracts in a base of a solvent, like alcohol (a long-lasting preservative). Our bodies quickly absorb this liquid form of botanical medicine. This is a potent, faster-acting herbal treatment when you need the immediate benefits. The exact formulation principles are used when these extractions are created.

We aim to grow our gardens and offerings, bringing seasonal botanicals and thoughtfully curated subscriptions to more people nationwide. Through in-person and online classes, free resources, and seasonal collaborations with makers and teachers, we share herbal wisdom and creative practices. Over time, our land will become a sacred gathering space for private events and intimate celebrations, honoring the rhythms of the Earth and nurturing deeper connection to self, soil, and spirit.
